First edition, oblong folio (9.5 inches by 12.5 inches), vii, 314 pp. Original hand-binding with four raised bands in bright royal blue Oasis Morocco, all edges gilt, inner dentelles, and the The Virginia Gold Cup Races supralibros centered on the front board. Pastedowns and front and rear endpapers are handmarbled with gold flecking by an unknown master, but reminiscent of the work of Peggy Skyecraft. The book is housed in a matching hard blue bookcloth slipcase, with an inset Blue Oasis Morocco panel repeating the supralibros and offset with an underlay of the same marbled paper. The book is further protected by the original heavy cream stock dustjacket, likewise embellished with the Gold Cup supralibros in gold.
 
The book itself is a thorough history of the Virginia Gold Cup Horse Races over a period of 65 years, and features maps of the courses at Great Meadow, the wonderful illustrations by Cassidy, and numerous important photographs. Appendices included document the winning horses, winners’ bloodlines, race committee members, life founding members, and an exhaustive index.
